Sometimes all you have to do is zoom out and focus on the painting! Sarraute's 'Sunday Afternoon' is simply dots. If one focuses on the dots, they miss the beauty of the painting.
How often we get so lost in the details that we forget our purpose.
If we are constantly complaining about or apologizing for our children what are we teaching them? What are we telling others? What are we convincing ourselves? Ultimately, what are we saying to God?
If we say, 'I am not cut out to be a parent!' Are we not actually saying, 'God made a big mistake when He burdened me with these kids'?
If we complain about the home and caring for it.. Or if we fail to care for our home, what are we portraying about the importance of our home to others? Are we expressing an attitude of thanksgiving to the Father who has lavished blessings upon us? I hardly think so.
When we fail to care for our bodies, what do we express? Do we show the world that our body is a temple for the Comforter, the Holy Spirit?
You see, we communicate far more than we intend. We paint a picture of our life for others to see. Are we so focused on the black dots that we fail to describe the amazing beauty that Christ created when he took away the old and gave us the new? Are we so discouraged by the piles of laundry that we refuse to praise God for those who wear the clothes? Are we so frustrated at the tantrums that we cannot look into those tear filled eyes and see the blessings that God has bestowed upon us?
